My ac adapter port is loose - trouble charging battery

Hello there:

About 8 months ago, the strap broke on my messenger briefcase; my old aluminum powerbook g4 fell about 6 inches, but enough to dent the corner next to the ac adapter port, pressing the metal against it.

It worked fine after. Now, I see that the plastic around the port is cracked and no longer round, and this keeps the power adapter from sitting square in the port. I have to jiggle it around before it starts charging. I fear it is near the end of it's usefulness. Is there something I can do to repair this myself? I haven't done any kind of computer repairs before.
