Why the screen won't light up
The kindle is charged the green light comes on but the screen won't light up

I would see if you can see anything on the screen when you get it into the light just right you will need to use a bright source of light if you can then it is a back light issue. if you can not then the problem is ether the screen or the the device itself.

the background picture is on but the reading light won't come on. When I push the button to turn the reading on, the green dot lights up for approx 5 sec. and then shuts off while I'm holding the button in.
