is there a way to format the disk to factory condition and then do a new back up. I need to delete old back up files once the disk gets full so new backups have room. right now other files are listed and i can't access them to delete them. the x drive has disappeared from my computer so i unplugged it and then plugged it back in and then it reappeared but with these issues

If it shows up in file explorer, you should be able to right click on the drive and select format, Then let it do a quick format.

Before this issue did you encounter errors copying or writing files in this drive? if so this drive may be failing or have smart issue, download free drive program testing programs such speedfan or hd tune and install it in you pc after that attached the mybook to your desktop and run iether of the above program and check you disk smart status of your drive if its failing then it maybe time for drive replacement, if its just warning then you can use checkdisk to repair your drive for any file error after the scan disconnect the drive and reconnect again and try to do reformat, ensure to turn off any av programs running in the backgrounds.
