Why would bread begin to toast unevenly?
Top is now darker than bottom on both pieces of bread.

Put in one piece of bread and set it to toast. Look into it on the empty side and see if you can discern if the bottom chills are turning red. If nit you may have a break in the heating wires. The problem will be trying to find a replacement part.
