Black screen after replacing rear camera

I replaced the camera in my HTC One M8, got it apart fine, and got the old broken camera out and the new one in. Checked all the connections, and put the phone back together. When I loaded up the camera app, it was a black screen and then force quit back to the home screen. I have restarted a couple times, taken the phone apart again to double check I got everything hooked up correctly, and it is the same issue. Selfie mode worked and wouldn't close the app.

I force closed the camera app and deleted the data associated and now the rear camera doesn't show up in the app at all. Only the front camera for selfies.

I am currently hard resetting the phone and it is finishing that up as I type this post. I'm hoping that the reset fixes itself but I'm planning for the worst.

Any one else experienced this with the HTC One M8? Is it a bad replacement part? Or something else entirely?

Same problem after hard reset. The camera app only has "selfie" option, not rear camera.
