This is likely the cause of a bad wifi chip, which is very difficult and expensive to fix, but the good news is that you should be able to activate with itunes and sideload apps.

Have you a hard restart of the phone (hold down the power button and the home button simultaneously until 2 seconds after the apple logo appears) Have the phone connected to your computer with a cable while doing this and have iTunes opened. If this is successful backup your phone immediately with a local backup and should allow you to wipe and restore IOS (fixing any corrupt parts of the OS) and and your apps. If this fails you may have a hardware failure, but you should still be able to use the phone if the WiFi component has failed, just disable the WiFi syncing when you restore IOS.

Hey Dessie, I use to have this issue too and what I did was turn off Wi-Fi and then turn it on. If the problem persists I forget network and then connect again. The next option you can do is to restart your modem and router. I hope this helps. You can read the full instructions here: http://www.technobezz.com/iphone-wont-co...

I also have an iPhone 4s which I use on a BOSE speaker port in my makeshift garage gym. I had a similar issue with WIFI connection. These are the 3 solutions or reasons I’ve read in researching the issue. #2 worked for me.

1) WIFI is is actually grayed out for some users. Solution: Reset Network Settings on your iPhone

  • Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings

2) Simply turn off / on your home router. I first troubleshooted using a separate hotspot wifi device I use for work. I successfully connected to it. That’s a good sign. I then turned my home router off/on and proceeded to manually connect my iPhone to my problem home wifi. It worked.

3) There are some articles/ posts/ youtube videos that indicate it may be a hardware issue. “Put it in the freezer…” etc. or actually open your device and solder parts. I wouldn’t do this unless its an absolute last resort. Proceed with extreme caution.
