I have replaced the battery, plugged the adapter into the wall to charge and tried plugging it in to the computer. The battery will not charge while it is in the camera, the camera will not turn on.

I actually had to have the switch in my replaced by sending it out for repair due to warranty. But you could do it yourself if you have the part and the skills to do so. There is a great file showing how to take the camera apart some where on this site. Need to search for it.
