Tablet doesn't pickup wifi very well

I have access to WiFi where I live and work, but my tablet seems to have a hard time picking it up. It does, but painfully slow and always timing out of stuff

Hi @andyjd01192011 ,

If you have the inclination you may wish to check that your tablet's WiFi antenna is properly soldered onto the systemboard and that it is not a loose or dry joint connection.

Here is a video showing how to repair the digitizer in your tablet. It is useful as it shows how to open the tablet to gain access to the systemboard etc,. At 4:52 minutes into the video the motherboard's antenna connection is shown (also see image below)

You're probably not in range. Wi-Fi connections only have a range of about 300 feet. Anything beyond that will cause the problems you describe. Ensure you're in range before attempting to connect.

How about sitting merely 6ft away from router and network craps out on RCA Viking pro? One would believe it's the antenna drivers or other drivers within the unit rather than blame the router. What about location of servers? Could a server in a foreign country be so clogged with transfer protocol to thousands of computers around the world could cause signal breakdown?

Hi @C N

How about when it is used as close as possible next to the router i.e. <1', is it OK then?

If so check the antenna connection as described above in the Chosen Solution

If you have a Win PC with WiFi, try installing this free WiFi sniffer program and check the number of WiFi networks that are using the same WiFi channel as your network in your vicinity.

Most home routers default to CH1, 6 or 11 so everyone is using them and not the others that are available to be used, and if there is one close to your network on the same channel and it has a strong signal it may cause interference and this slows down the connection to your devices.

Remember when using the program that the signal strength shown is in negative (-ve) dBm so the higher the number value the lower the actual strength of the signal. Every 3dB is equal to either half or double the signal strength. (depending on which direction it is in relation to e.g. -97dB is only half as strong as -94dB yet it is twice as strong as -100dB)

If there are a lot of networks using the same channel as your network in your vicinity as shown by the program, change the channel in the router (see router menus) to a quieter channel, i.e. one with only a few or no appearances in the program and check.
