Why does my amp randomly switch between clean channel and distortion?

I just bought the Crate GX140D 212 guitar amp used and it worked fine the first few times I played with it. Now it randomly switches back and forth between the clean Channel and the overdriven Channel. Engaging the switch to change channels makes no difference. I have cleaned the switches to no avail. What next?
