A system hard drive reports that it may be corrupted

Hello. Today while I visited some sites my pc stuck a bit shut off. At startup I gave a black page with some error messages (I pressed F1 to start it later). And after I found this notification flash.

What? Can I have information? Could it be the fault of the dust? I never cleaned the inside of the pc.

Ok Here's your answer provided by @avanteguarde

After this you can return to your regularly scheduled programming

run 'chkdsk C: /offlinescanandfix' on windows 10 or 'chkdsk c: /f /v' on previous versions of Windows.

He told me I can take the credit. I'm still giving him credit.

Hard disk failure can happen anytime due to the bad power supply, virus attack, damaged block, sectors and corrupted operating system files e.g., NTLDR, boot.ini, ms-dos.sys etc.

if it can boot into windows, open command prompt as an admin (right click and hit run as administrator) and type:

sfc /scannow

the process should take a while, but that should fix it.

@captainsnowball SFC only checks for corrupted operating system files. This will not scan for physical errors on a drive.

OP should run 'chkdsk C: /offlinescanandfix' on windows 10 or 'chkdsk c: /f /v' on previous versions of Windows.

OK. But 2 things, What does OP mean and where did physical come from? I'm pretty sure he was talking about corrupted files.

(this comment here sounds to me with malice, but there is no malice intended.)

@captainsnowball no malice taken. :-)

OP - Original Poster

Ok, corrupted files, I can agree to that assumption. SFC still only checks for anything Windows uses. It won't check for any other files that may be corrupt. Also there are many different causes for corruption. SFC only checks if a Virus has damaged or replaced a file. Chkdsk checks to see if the file is corrupted via physical damage to the hard drive (i.e. bad sector) or incomplete file writing (i.e. lost clusters).

Ahhhh Ok. Thanks Maybe update your comment right then to an answer?

из

Nah, you can have this one. Cheers!
