I need a special tool to get my shark vacuum apart

The fasteners look like an allen head with a pin in the middle. Looks like you would need an allen wrench with a tiny hole drilled in the middle of it. Any ideas what/where I could get a tool like this?

Thanks for your help!

I see what kind of screws they are all I want to know is why!!!!!

из

How in the world would anyone be able to tell you *why* a company used a given type of fastener? Seriously now...

из

The only reason why companies do that is to prevent the "normal Joe" from opening (and fixing) their devices. Companies have done this for years. It absolutely impedes the Right to Repair and that nonsense has got to be stopped!

из

They don't want you to be able to work on them. So in frustration you'll go buy another one.

@toolbag it sounds like you are talking about the tamper resistant Allen screws. It is a security feature that is easily circumventeed wit tool kits like like these. you can get those for Torx as well as many other screw heads.

yes but how do you find out if u need metric or SAE

из

the product is a shark vacuum

из

torx screws are the type

из

@mcgarry there is no difference. The same Torx drivers are used to drive SAE and metric

из

Unfortunately, at least two of the security screws are in a deep and narrow hole that is impossible to reach with the short bits that are commonly sold.

Can I use any other tool

из

No, it must be this kind only. These tools are made by different manufacturers.

I have got the screws out but the unit still seems to be sealed. I gave a new lower hose duct to replace the spilt one but now at a loss as to how to get to it.

@lazyboy How did you reach the deep sockets? I have the correct bit, but it doesn’t reach.

из

Were you ever able to get into the unit to replace the hose, Ali?

из

There's screws under the two tiny wheels at the front. You need to pop those off to even see them. I love shark vacuums but as far as cleaning them they couldn't make it more difficult.

из

Curt, thank you so much for your answer. I have been looking for this tool and it's been very frustrating. You made it so easy. Including the link on where to get it it's so appreciated. Thank you so so much!!! Rae Lynn

it must be an issue other than size.

do your bits have a center hole?

are they Torx? Maybe they are Allen bits. THEY MUST BE Torx.
