camara has cristal white dust in ot and doesn't turn on

Block Image

I had my polaroid in a box during months because I couldn't afford the paper. Now I bought the paper but when I open the box, the camara has cristal white dust in ot and doesn't turn on. When I check the batteries one of them has more of this white cristal like dust and they both look like. they are cover in oxid. I think one of them explode, and now I don'tknowwhat to do, or if the camera could kepp working. I'm sorry if my problem seemssilly but I dont know anything about cameras or batteries

@andreavic it will be helpful if you can post some pictures with your question of where exactly the damage is. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that so we can see what you see.

Your alkaline battery is most likely leaking and it is absolutely possible that one of your batteries has ruptured. You need to remove the batteries. Then clean everything with a fine brush first (wear some eye protection against any flying particles) and after that use a cotton tip applicator and some vinegar to clean the corrosion off. Then evaluate all the contacts to make sure they are still complete etc.

@andreavic not to bad. Brush off the loose stuff first than use some vinegar to clean the rest. Clean off the vinegar with some isopropyl alcohol .

It does sound like the battery leaked out. Pick off the thick particles with a toothpick. Dab a papertowel/cloth with vinegar and scrub the remaining corrosion. Check the contacts where the battery is held and use the cloth/papertowel/cotton swab to clean it off. White down to ensure no more liquid exists.

Test new batteries. Hope this helps.

Hi @andreavic ,

Check the battery manufacturer's website regarding their policy on leaking batteries.

Some large reputable battery manufacturers state that they will replace electronic equipment damaged by leaking batteries (subject to them being satisfied that it wasn't caused by user misuse etc.)

It's worth checking out.

If it is applicable in your case, make sure that you keep the faulty batteries and take pictures of the damage caused etc. to assist in your claim
