PS3 60Gb fan replaced, but still not spinning up. Any thoughts?

Hi all,

I recently got an old PS3 60gb model CECHC04. System was overheating after 5-10 minutes of power on (idle).

I noticed the fan was not spinning, so I replaced it, thinking it was shot.

However, afterwards it still would not spin up and kept overheating.

Has anybody else come accross this? I was thinking maybe a power issue. Because to my mind (correct me if I'm wrong) the fan should always spin, be it at a low speed.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Regards

Maarten

You are correct about it should always spin... However, when you replaced the fan, did you also clean all the gunk off the cpu & gpu, then put new Artic Silver on both the cpu/gpu and the heat sink? You must follow the directions for the YLOD repair.

Update

Yes... the heat gun treatment will allow the solder joints to reflow.

Thanks for your response and no I didn't, I just cleaned out the dust and replaced the fan. I will follow your suggestion and continue with changing the coolant paste. Did you also meant I need to use the heatgun treatment?
