What is this, a backlight or diffuser issue?

Block Image

I wonder if this is worth fixing, or if I should just live with it ?

Update (05/23/2018)

The model number is UN55JS8500. It's been a great set for the two years I've had it, and then one day these lines show up.

Those look like reflections from ceiling lights or a bit of backlight bleed. Anyway you can circle which part you are referring to?

It's the horizontal lines starting on the right edge of the screen. There is a window reflection closer to the center. I've seen backlight bleed before, but never in the shape of lines.

There is a video on youtube by a repair technician on a 65" like mine but same model as yours. On opening the set he found the diffuser screens were melted by the lights allowing the lights to show on the edges. He states the problem is setting the backlight on the picture menu to highest setting. He recommended setting on 16 or at least less than then highest setting of 20. According to postings though, this seems a problem with Samsungs and the complaints are that Samsung is doing nothing about a possible problem.

I have a Samsung UE40H5500AK in the process of finding the fault, I forgot which order the diffusion panels go? one has locating tabs on the edge for the frame, and the other has just flat edges. which one goes directly in front of the led strips?

radiasean this is not a backlight error. Yes it could be the diffuser sheet but you want to give us the complete model number of your TV as well. To fix it or not to fix it will entirely depend on your skills, tools and time. A lot of times changing the sheets etc. becomes very involved and cumbersome.

Those are to long and to uneven to be backlight bleed. Check all inputs on your TV to see if that makes a difference. Those do look like panel issues. Once you take the back of your set, check the main board for any damaged looking component and make sure that all cables are properly connected etc.

It’s cracks in the diffuser panel.

It will get worse and eventually will burn the edges of the diffuser panel.

Un65j9000 one spot appeared today a second one. Streaky white shadows at the right vertical edge. Found a YouTube video confirming a cracked diffusing screen originating from an edge led. Overheating after 7 years ok I can understand but 4000$ later I am frustrated to say the least. Defective and preprogrammed to fail yet Samsung washes its hands thinking about going public
