Obviouly some one has completely re-formated the hard drive and wiped Toshiba’s Factory Restore partition.

Just download and use the Mircosoft Product Key on the underside of the laptop or use , on the existing OS, one of the programs that finds the product key on the hard drive. Probably best to do both or find a used XP CD with a product key.

Just curious. Why do you want to do this?

Lost passwords to my 2 XP Professional systems. Cannot get past log-in using "Administrator" method or in Safe Mode Command prompt.

@rickruggieri At the Welcome Screen. Press <Ctrl + Alt + Delete> twice to load the user login panel and just click "O.K."

If that doesn't work look here, fgor example:

Shut down completely and then as soon as you power the device on start pressing the f11 button. Or press and hold the f11 button and it should open prompts to factory restore it.

Will this delete any existing data?

@rickruggieri Yes it will. Backup data first.

Here's how to do a factory restore:

  • Power down the device.
  • Unplug everything - mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc.
  • Make sure the AC adapter is plugged in.
  • Press and hold the zero key while powering on the computer. Keep holding it till you see the recovery warning screen.
  • Pick your OS.
  • Follow the remaining prompts.

The drive will be wiped clean when you do the factory restore. If you don't want to do that, do not proceed.
