Hi Mayer, I'm having unexpected shut downs on my Mac 3,1 all of a sudden. Started while rendering in Adobe Premiere, now all the time. Did your machines' fans speed up after shut down or is that something overheating. Should I go ahead a try replacing the power supply unit?

Please tell me your exact MacPro machine.
My experience has been an escalating frequency of restarts with a failing power supply. Your problem sounds different. First download and run TG Pro and see if you are getting a component overheat.

Thanks Mayer for the quick response. Unfortunately I can’t even run the machine long enough to install TG pro. I tried tonight but it shuts down after a minute or so. It’s a Mac Pro early 2008 3,1 running OS10.9.5. Original cpu’s dual 3.2 ghz quad core. I recently upgraded gpu and ram in attempts to solve the issue. Now running with a GTX 770 graphics card and all new 32gbs Ddr2 ram. No luck, still unexpectedly shuts down even with smc fan control at full blast. Thanks for the help, about ready to throw in the towel.
