What is this logic board component?

I have an iPhone 6s Plus that i suspected had a logic board problem because both WiFi and cellular connection didn't, and still doesn't, work. Anyway, I took the logic board out to check it out and discovered that "this" component (blue) was loose. And eventually after I it fell off.

I don't know what this component is called, but since I have a problem with the wireless connection i suspect the component has something to do with this, and in addition also because it is placed right next to the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth antenna cable socket.

So my questions are:

  1. What is the component called?
  2. What does is do?
  3. How can I re-apply it correctly?

Thanks in advance:)

Do you know where I can buy that component and how to re-solder it to the logic board?

I have looked around and I have not seen this IC for sale. I didn't do an exhaustive search but it certainly isn't widely available. It is involved in the RF part of the phone so you are probably correct that this is related to your issues.

As for soldering, @tech_ni already mentioned that this requires a hot air station. If you have to ask how to do it, then you aren't really ready to do it on a good phone. Look at the many iPhone repair videos online and observe how they remove IC's. Then practice on dead boards until you can remove IC's with a very high rate of success. Then you can do it on your phone :>).

Soldering with hot air is as much an art as it is a science and you can only learn by "doing" and developing your style that suits your tools and your skills.

I know that without this chip, the Wi-Fi will not work. It is called the UTRIP_RF on ZXW, but I am not sure where to find a replacement besides on a Donor Board.

You will need a hot air station and you will want to ideally pre-heat the board. Remove all of the underfill from around the chip. Add flux and hit it with hot air. I like to use around 360C.

Here are some images of my repair.

Good luck. Hopefully you don’t have to run new traces.
