USB Superdrive ejection difficulties

I have plugged in my USB super drive and it makes some noise but it does not appear in the devises attached to computer in the finder, how do i get the computer to recognize device? It took the dvd but now will not display photos or eject because it does not appear?

From the desktop go under Finder to Preferences and check the box that says “CDs, DVDs and iPods” then see if it shows up.
