I have the mfc240c and 250c are the printer carriages interchangeabl?

i’m a beginner electronics self taught kinda guy with a little electronics wizardry skills . i’m in a major rush and i don’t have the money to spend on repair tech right now . i have both mfc 240c and 250c. i know there a slight difference in the two but cant i interchange the printer carriage from the 250c to the 240c?? they both look the same except the printer heads dont match and also from what i can tell one of the data ribbons are different. i wonder how i can make my the 250 work. also , can’t i just do some surgery and swap them from the where tubes come out from the printer heads?? someone have a suggestions i want my 240c to work??? this all started when my 250c power supply went out. but the power supply are the same and i dont think can just be swapped out…….. also im doing this all with out and darn ohm meter.. i just ordered a new one online….

Hi,

The MFC 250C uses LC38 cartridges and the MFC 240C uses L1000 cartridges which obviously aren't the same, so given that something as basic as the cartridges are different I would not be surprised that the power supplies may be different and who knows what else.

You may just have to get back to basics and trace out the problem in the power supply when your new DMM arrives

thanks. i think ill have to take your advice on that one..... but what usually goes out on a power supply on these things if the soldered in circuit fuse isnt blown??? just off the top ??

Hi,

Don't know the specific PSU but without a DMM, start looking for the visually obvious first e.g. bulging or domed capacitors or heat stressed or burnt components even a suspect solder joint.

It is definitely easier with a DMM though, as you know. At least you can test if there are any output voltages or not or start tracing the circuit through from the input, with the Ohmmeter or even Voltmeter.

You may just have to be patient until it arrives.

Hard I know but if nothing is obvious to the eye (use a strong light and a magnifying glass if you're unsure) that's all you can do.

We've all been there at sometime ;-)
