How to Reset a Keurig
By Julius Vandersteen
Although designed for convenience, your Keurig may leave you without your morning cup of joe when a glitch occurs. When your machine doesn't function as intended, simple reset procedures may clear the malfunction on your Keurig's internal computer. If trouble persists, or you are unsure of your ability to reset your machine, contact Keurig customer service for possible repair or replacementVIDEO OF THE DAY
Periodically, your Keurig may experience technical issues requiring a reset of the internal computer. Newer models have an advanced digital display with indicators to alert you that the machine is warmed up and ready to brew. If the display fails to change from "not ready" to "ready," the machine is incapable of brewing and must be reset. Other issues requiring reset include the machine failing to turn on, the display freezing and a loss of power prior to the completion of the brew cycle.
A basic reset resolves many common issues experienced with Keurig brewers. To perform a basic reset:
- Turn the machine off, if possible, and unplug it for several minutes.
- Plug the machine back in and try a brew cycle again.
- Plug the machine back in and try a brew cycle again.
- If simply unplugging your brewer doesn't work:
- Remove the water reservoir before powering the machine off and unplugging. Allow the brewer to sit unplugged for a few minutes without the water reservoir attached.
- Plug your Keurig into it's own designated outlet.
- Power the machine back on and then replace the reservoir.
If the brew cycle was interrupted, opening and closing the K-cup holder resets the brew cycle.
When basic reset steps fail, advanced reset techniques are required. To reset a Keurig B60 and other brewers with digital displays:
- Press the small and medium mug buttons simultaneously and release at the same time.
- Press "menu" three times immediately after releasing these buttons. If these steps are performed properly, the clock will read "6:09."
- Press "menu" once more and the display should change to say "brew 0:00."
- Press "medium mug" and then press and release "menu" while still depressing "medium mug."
- Continue holding "medium mug" and press "small mug," then release both buttons at the same time.
- Unplug the machine for several minutes before plugging in again.
This process resets the internal computer and should resolve any glitches.
Occasionally, other issues arise with the brewer that resetting alone will not fix. If the machine will not brew, it may need to be descaled by filling the reservoir with undiluted white vinegar and following the vinegar cycle with several rinses. It is also possible that the needle is plugged and needs to be cleaned. Remove the K-cup assembly and use a paper clip to remove any coffee grounds jammed in the needle. (Page 13 of Manual) If resetting the internal computer does not work and cleaning does not help, call Keurig's customer service for further recommendations or replacement if under warranty. Tyler, a customer service representative with Keurig, recommends calling Keurig's technical support prior to moving beyond the basic reset steps to avoid damaging the machine or voiding the warranty.

Did you by chance find a solution to this? I'm having this same problem..

I’m having the same issue with my K500. It came out of the blue, and was working perfectly beforehand. I just ordered the official maintenance tool to clear the needles rather than screwing around with a paperclip. I’ll post back if that happens to work.

I’m having the same issue with my 2.0. I’ve tried everything fix I could imagine. Smacking, descaling, pins...after I posted this I went to the menu screen to restore to factory settings. I did water only and was able to get 6 ounces of water instead of 4. I brewed a used Kcup using 4 once setting and it did brew 4 ounces. Now I’m stuck on the please wait screen which was my original issue 4 days ago.

Having same issue with a Keruig 2.0. Even replace the “innards” and that hasn’t solved the issue
