Where can I find the foam tape that connects the heat sink and fan?

In following the guide to replace the fan (which went well!), I unfortunately ended up taking off the foam tape found on top of the heat sink and fan in pieces.

There is one large one near the vent, and a smaller one on the left of the fan.

My question is, how do I replace the tape? Do I need to get any kind of foam tape or is there a specific kind of tape to use?

The thickness of the tape almost seems custom cut, as that and the texture of the tape appears different than the kind I’ve been buying/trying out (mostly window sealer foam tape).

Would anyone know where I could find the same kind of foam tape that is found in the Switch? Or something that I could use as a replacement?

Hi!

The foam inside is custom. Did you checked some local (repair) stores? Some other devices also uses this kind of foam. Even the backside of the original Gameboy Advance LCD.

If you can’t find it anywhere, you could use the foam you have. Do you have pictures of the current state of the foam?

And otherwise you could look it up online: https://www.ebay.com/b/anti-static-foam/...

Hopefully this will help.

Thank you for your reply!

Unfortunately, the state of the foam is in small pieces:

Oh, I did not think to make the tape myself! That's actually a really good idea.

So if I were to get the foam, would any kind of double sided tape work or what sort of tape would you recommend? The only thing I'd be worried about is making sure that the tape/adhesive itself doesn't melt.

@knyghtofninja Hi!

Yes, the best thing to do is to make it by yourself. You could use isolation tape or Aluminum tape which can take up to 284 Fahrenheit (watch out for components on the motherboard though).
