What is this piece of metal I found inside the disc drive for?

PS4 wouldn’t read any disc inserted, making a weird noise along with inconsistent spinning. Removed the disc drive and opened it up, found this piece of metal loosely sitting in the area would the inserted disc would reside.

Thanks.

Just looks like something somebody poked into the drive.

I have looked at the video below and can't see your part anywhere.

Just a number of smaller springs.

Have checked the mechanism to see if all looks and seems to work O.K.?

Have you tried reassembling it to see if it works with that piece removed?

If you watch this video you may see your part or get some ideas:

The rollers coming out seem to be a common problem. Check them out.

Yah, I've taken apart many an optical drive and I've never seen anything like that before. The video was great as it basically confirmed for me that this is NOT a part of this drive. The one end looks like it hooks onto a solid holder of some sort, the other end doesn't look broken, it looks pointed. Doesn't look like a spring that stretched out, it would not look like that with spring steel.

I think this is a stray piece of junk that somehow got into the machine.

Thanks both of you for taking the time to reply.

I had a good look around the drive at the time and it didn't seem to have come from anywhere. It does seem as though it was inserted, the coiled bit at the end made me second guess that as it seemed machined and similar to another piece in the drive.

Anyway, I just got the time now to re-assemble the drive along with the playstation and test out a disc, all seems to be working as it should.

Hopefully that will be the end of it.

Thanks again :)
