My MB Air boots to the point where the status bar finishes loading then two alternating mystery graphics appear (see pics). They are clearly trying to tell me to take some action. What is going on and what do they mean? The machine powers down after several minutes.

It might not be detecting you keyboard and touchpad. Try connecting an external keyboard and or mouse so you can diagnose further.

The graphics is telling you to turn on the bluetooth keyboard and mouse as your internal units are not found.
