I spilt coffee on my Acer Nitro laptop, sent it to be repaired as it was shutting down intermittently, was totally cleaned inside but old battery wouldn’t charge. Bought new battery but still have same problem. Laptop only works when connected to power, does not charge laptop battery.

Typically liquid damage isn’t a very practical repair on any device because it can leave lots of electrical “gremlins” behind. Sounds like the charging system might be damaged or the battery circuit.

Hi, so what is the solution, have already spent $400 odd to clean/dry inside laptop and purchase new battery! Would it be very expensive to repair, so far I have a +$2K laptop that can only be used with a power lead! Hoping you may suggest a solution, thanks.

@bendigo3550 $400 to clean and dry the inside? That seems a little steep. Did they use an ultrasonic bath at least? My only suggestion would be to either stick with it while using the power adapter or replace the machine. Liquid damage is just not practical to fix. It would be like trying to rebuild a glass mirror from the broken pieces it shattered from. I know it's not what you want to hear, but it's the honest to God truth from a repair technician's perspective. Just make sure you keep your stuff backed up just in case it fails out of nowhere although it should be relatively easy to remove the hard drive and retrieve data.

$400 includes a new battery and yes it was an ultrasonic bath clean. The worst part is that I only had the laptop for 6 days!!! I now have a $2000+, you beaut laptop that only works with a power cord! Along with having a new battery that I didn't really need! Thanks heaps Jesse for you assistance, much appreciated.
