Why is my phone overheating?

So this all started when I dropped the phone I. The toilet.It stoped working until we put it in rice which seemed to make everything fine until it started overheating.Also there is another problem that the percentage of charge does not update the percentage it does not go down or up when it is charging unless i reset it.
