Help troubleshooting a no power issue

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased this Xbox One S from Facebook Marketplace… the seller had listed it as for parts/not working. A brief history as per the listing stated that this console had been liquid damaged and a new power supply was installed which allowed the console to continue working for a period of about two weeks, now the console won’t power on. When I disassembled this, I thought I was in luck because the power button on the front board was broken - I am yet to replace this, however the eject button, bind button and even trying to turn it on with a wired controller do nothing so I have held off ordering one.

So I ordered a new PSU and tried that today, the one that was in the system was outputting 12.xx V on all three outputs, but was making a weird ticking sound under new load. The new power supply had no ticking sound, however made no difference and I noticed that there was no small fan spin when the power was connected. There was also no standby voltage across any of the components that should have it.

After checking the 12V rail to ground with my multimeter I see that while it doesn’t beep (on continuity mode) it displays a figure anywhere between 1800-2000 (which is assume is resistance in Ohms?). So this screams out to me as a short so I began testing the surface mount caps and I have found one of concern that has a 35 Ohm short to ground (attached photo) C9C16. All of the other caps I have tested work totally fine. I have not tested the MOSFETS because I am not sure what test I can do on them. If anyone knows an easy MOSTFET test please let me know. I have a hot air station on the way as I intend to learn micro-soldering and other SMD/IC work over the next few weeks.

I am sorry if I have made any obvious mistakes with my tests, etc - I’m new to this.

If anyone could share any help or experience they may have in resolving this fault, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

EDIT: I found that all three of the smallest capacitors around the main MOSFETs are shorted to ground on both sides… is this normal behaviour. All other caps in this area are fine. Photo attached

Try putting in diode mode with red probe on ground. Ohms short would show 0.02 or something like that check around the mosfets.

@tech_ni Thanks for the reply... tonight I tested the MOSFETS with the instructions in this video (https://youtu.be/GagzJMcGcfc) and none of them are shorted to ground indicating that they are all good (they all read about 764-766 Ohms).
