iMac 21.5" 2012 Does not Power ON

Hi!

I'm trying to repair a 2012 iMac 21.5 ”because after a storm didn't turn ON anymore (the iMac Was connected to a UPS). I changed the PSU for a identic one (same part number) and in this moment I turn ON the iMac (witout screen and HDD) and I think that iMac turned ON correctly and fan and 3 leds were ON , but I'm not sure. I thought that i had solve the problem, and I cloned the HDD to a SSD and I remove RAM to see witch type of I need to buy to upgrade 8Go to 16Go.

I installed the RAM again and few hours later I installed the SSD when clone was finished.Well, I turned ON the iMac with a external screen to be sure that all was correctly installed but iMac didn't turn ON anymore.

Now, Led #1 is ON, and when I push power button Led #2 blinks. Fan starts and stop itself. Chime is not heared

I don't know if I have problem with RAM or if the logic board is dead.

I try to turn ON without RAM with same result.

Can anybody helps me please?

Thanks in advance

Try working backwards to see if it did work when you had the SSD unplugged. After that we can trouble shoot more.

Update (06/03/2021)

Gotcha, I found this from another thread but here you go. I will also post the link as well.

"LED 1 - Indicates that the trickle voltage from the power supply is detected by the main logic board. This LED will remain ON while the iMac is connected to the AC power. The LED will remain on even when the computer has been shut down or put to sleep. The LED will turn off only if the AC power is disconnected or the power supply is faulty.

LED 2 - Indicates that the main logic board has detected proper power from the power supply when the computer is turned on. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned on and the power supply is working correctly.

LED 3 - Indicates that the computer and the video card are communicating. This LED will be ON when the computer is communicating properly with the video card. If LEDs 1 and 2 are ON and you heard the startup sound, but LED 3 is OFF, then the video card might be installed incorrectly or need replacement.

LED 4 - Indicates that the computer and the LCD display panel are communicating. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned on and video signal is being generated. If the LED is ON and there is no image on the LCD display panel, the LCD display panel or inverter might be installed incorrectly or need replacement.

Diagnostic LED's 3 & 4 not on

I have read that post, but I don't understand what the blinking LED 2 means. Exactly the same thing happens with the original PSU. it's rare both PSUs were dead.

@yerbito So when you turn it on does LED #2 just blink or does it stay on?

из

@martinhall049 LED #2 blink every 5 seconds (aproximately)

из

Ram or Logic board then.
