Is an accidentally sliced battery still safe to use?

Long story short, I was working on trying to remove the adhesive off my old battery and I accidentally punctured and sliced into the battery, peeling the outer covering a little bit. Is the battery safe to use? The battery still functions and charges it's just punctured a little bit and the slice doesn't seem to expose that much. Will this battery blow up or cause harm or can I cover the slice with some packing tape and still be safe? I have some photos attached that you can refer to.

Without the gas proof outer case you do put your self at higher risk of a lithium fire and/or off gassing. To add to it this is the surface which needs to be secured to the uppercase as you don't want the battery to be sliding around.

To be safe I would get a replacement battery ASAP! MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2015) Battery

Alright I see. Would it be safer to drain the battery first as the battery still does have some charge left. Would draining it to zero cause less problems? I already have some extra adhesive so sliding around shouldn't be a problem, But would I be able to cover up the incision and still be fine or would I be better off with a new battery?

@jimmysofat6864 - You can't seal it tight enough so when the inner cell walls rupture the outer case can't hold the pressure back.

Just like riding of worn-out tires you run the risk of a tire blowout at the most inopportune time.

@jimmysofat6864 it wont blow up for as long as you do not puncture/slice the pouches. Looks like yours is just "injured" on the out shell. I would suggest that you at least cover it with some electric tape etc. and try to avoid further mishaps :-)
