iPad Mini stuck at black screen, and shows garbage display

A friend asked me to diagnose his iPad. My friend says it looks like it turned off and it showed garbage display before turning off, then it shows a black screen. When pressing the lock button, I can see the backlight turn on and off, but nothing is displayed on the screen. I also noticed that the left part of screen is slightly lifted, I think its due to a battery swelling. Is the display broken because of the swelling battery?

Update: I was able to turn the iPad on again with the lock screen showing up, but after I pressed the lock button, it showed garbage display, then went black screen again. I was not able to let it go to lock screen again, I can only see the backlight turn on or off if I press the lock button.

Book yourself into your nearest Apple store, they will reset the IOS for you and correct this error for free

My friend already had it sent for repair but he was told that the mainboard is busted, but I doubt that since I was able to put the iPad to DFU mode and my PC with 3uTools recognized it. He also wanted to backup his data, if possible, before resetting the iPad.
