Laptop does not turn on unless battery is removed

Hi, I have encountered a problem just today with my laptop still working fine the last few days. My laptop does not turn on unless I do this in order:

  1. Battery is removed/disconnected
  2. Power button is pressed for 45 seconds
  3. Charger is plugged

I can tell my battery is still working because I can turn it on using a different method. To turn it on with the battery connected I do the following:

  1. Battery is removed/disconnected
  2. Power button is pressed for 45 seconds
  3. Connect battery again
  4. Plug charger
  5. Laptop automatically turns on without pressing the power button

However. When I turn the laptop back on again, it wont turn on anymore unless I do the exact same step above.

What could be wrong?

when you get it running, open a CMD prompt and type powercfg /batteryreport

It will create a report and tell you where it was saved. Read it to see if U can determine if the battery is OK.

Since U must drain any charge off the PC b4 it will run on the charger alone, I'm thinking there is an issue with your MB.

I use Linux so I used battery statistics on Linux Mint and its able to read and detect the battery properly with its capacity, discharge status, etc.

Just wanted to come here and comment as I had the same problem and fixed it. The battery report suggestion worked well! I have two internal batteries so I thought it couldn't be a battery issue - surely both batteries wouldn't fail simultaneously. Turns out it doesn't matter, the batteries must be wired in a sequence that if one fails it disrupts the power state of the system, preventing boot-up without first doing a power drain, despite the other battery functioning properly. Hope this helps somebody
