Can I use a surface pro 7 screen for my surface pro 8

I did some poking around but didn't find anything definitive. My gut impression is that they probably aren't compatible though. Generally if a screen will work on multiple models of devices, then online vendors are all too ready to advertise them as such since it reduces their inventory when they can sell the same part for different things. I didn't find anyone selling the same screen for both the Pro 7 and Pro 8 models.

I did find one blog page that covers screen replacement on all Surface models. It has a mention that the Pro 6 screen can be used on the Pro 7 with the caveat that you'll lose the use of the microphones on the Pro 7. There's also a suggestion that the Pro 8 screen might be the same as the Pro X screen, but that wasn't confirmed by anything else I saw.

To be safe, I wouldn't advise trying to use anything but a Pro 8, but I'd be tempted to try if I could get a Pro X screen cheap or free. The screen replacement guide for the Pro 7 rates the procedure as "difficult", so it's entirely up to you if you want to risk your Pro 7 screen by trying to remove it in the off chance it might fit on the 8. Keep in mind the initial guidance provided at the very beginning of the Pro 7 Screen Replacement guide:

There is a significant chance that you may break the unreinforced and fragile display panel during this procedure.

Sorry this isn't a more authoritative answer rather than just my (somewhat informed) opinion, but perhaps there's another user on here that does have a definitive answer. I'd suggest holding off on the attempt to use the Pro 7 screen until and unless you have positive confirmation that it will work.
