Not powering on correctly! Both battery indicator and power light on.

Hey guys,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L855-S5119 that I got for free to fix up a few years ago. From what the lady who gave it to me said, it got nail polish all over the bottom of it and it doesn't start right. I took it apart and I don't see any liquid damage. The computer starts up, doesn't show anything on the screen, battery and power light come on and doesn't do anything.

Interestingly, it also keeps trying to start itself and it happens over and over again. What could be the main issue?

Does the drive light flash? Have you tried getting into the BIOS?

If you remove the hard drive cover you will see the CMOS battery.

Toshiba Satellite L855-S5119 Hard Drive Replacement

See it just to the right of the drive?

First unplug the charger and disconnect the main battery. Take out the CMOS "coin" battery and press the laptop's power button for 30 seconds. This will set all the BIOS settings to the default.

Reconect battery, etc. try powering up laptop. Any luck?

Thank you for the timely response!

To answer the first part of your question, the hard drive light also flashes. I took out the coin battery in question, unplugged the battery and reset the power for 30 seconds to no success. Any other ideas? Do I need to replace the motherboard? Reflow the GPU?

@prestonangel

Disconnect the HDD and then try starting it and check if you can get into BIOS with a display

Hey Jayeff,

I did that and the same thing still occurs. Do I need to replace the motherboard?

@prestonangel

Unless you wish to invest in the schematic to find out what's wrong and then hopefully it is not a problem with the board itself (burnt traces etc) and it is some faulty parts instead and then search around trying to find replacements etc, it may be best option.

It comes down to whether you think it is economically viable, time and money wise to choose whether to fix or to replace.
