Asus ROG Strix G531GT freezes/crashes after plugging in.

My ROG Strix G531GT works fine when on battery, boots up fine and everything, but the moment I plug it in, it will lag out occasionally and eventually just freeze up entirely, leaving me with no choice but to hold the power button for a force shutdown. After that, it won't turn back on either by pressing the power button. I've noticed that sometimes, if the device is plugged in before powering on, it would not start, or would freeze within a span of 5-10 mins. All the drivers were updated.

Could this be a motherboard issue? My exhaust fans did occasionally make noise, so I'm worried that the fans might be the culprit, I had them cleaned for dust and reapplied thermal paste 2 months back, and temps, while not exactly low, weren't way too high either. Before I spend money on replacing the fans entirely, I just wanted to know if there is something else i need to troubleshoot or look into?

have you tried changing the charger itself? the voltage might be regulated which is causing the laptop to freeze

@sushmitsatish from google translate:

"Hi dear friend

In such cases, there may be a problem with the charging port, and in some cases, there is a possibility of a connection in the charging circuit, in any case, show an experienced mobile technician to fix the problem after necessary checks.

Thank you for your question. Alireza Arefi"

Hi @xander56014

The thing is, the technician flat out said the motherboard is at fault and suggested me to change it, which would cost almost 60% of the original cost of the laptop.

I wished to know if there are any alternative routes that I can take before I finally give up on this laptop and get a new one.

Thank you!
