Invacare Motion 9000sl wheelchair - wheels rubbing against chair

In my limited experience, hardware on the chairs seems to work loose with time and use. Have you tried taking a wrench of appropriate size to every fastener on the chair to be sure they are tight?

Your chair might have spacers on the axle, so you probably need to make sure those are present. (user manual page 55)

It looks like there isn't much adjustability offered in the sleeve, or at least there is not instructions in the user manual. You want to make sure it is identical on each side.

You also should make sure the parts have not loosened, which could make one wheel unsteady. And make sure the quick release axle is fully inserted when the wheel is attached, so that it can not shift out.

There are other wheelchairs with manuals that explain tightening the axle area in more detail, but they might not fully apply to your chair.

Tight axle sleeves should be maintained for proper performance of the wheelchair.

a. To adjust the axle (C) you will need a 3/4" wrench to turn teh outside axle nuts (E).

b. You will also need a 1/2" wrench to lodge the ball bearings (D), on the opposite end of the axle, and prevent the axle from turning.

c. Turn the outside axle nut (F) clockwise to tighten.

d. There should only be zero to ten thousandths of an inch (.010") of play.
