Ram sockets seem faulty

I have a problem with my iMac’s ram sockets.

If ram is at all installed on the right sockets (viewed from front of unit), it throws a 3 beep error.

If ram is only installed on the left side (viewed from front of unit), the system chimes and boots up.

Any solutions, suggestions, or advice is much appreciated! 🙏

Here are the specs by the way:

-27 inch display

-Mid 2011

-A1312

-EMC 2429

-Intel Core i7-2600 SR00B (upgraded) (original i5-2500s)

-500GB SAMSUNG SSD

-32GB RAM before cpu upgrade worked fine (4x8gb elpida ddr3 sticks)

-16gb also worked fine (2x8gb)

Update (01/24/24)

I am not trying to push it to 32GB. It worked before, so I tried to it, but did not work. I tried it with all of the ram I had, including the original 2, 2gb sticks of ram that came in the Mac.

I think you fell into a known trap! At the time period of this system (Sandy Bridge) Intel was having problems with their support chips and there interaction with the CPU. If I remember correctly Apple used the SR00C chips.

I would get the newer rev chip instead if you are going to push the RAM to 32GB otherwise you’ll need to stick with 16GB which is the supported limit or roll back to the i5 CPU.

If the system is working with just the two SO-DIMMs (16) maybe it’s just the best answer if you need the more powerful i7

@electronicartel - So the question is - you can’t get any RAM to work that you are sure is the required specs and are sure are fully inserted?

Not on the one side, but all ram works on one side
