T-con board or panel problems? Colored Vertical Lines displayed
UN55KS8000F
Hi everyone,
I am normally the guy that does some light soldering work, phone and tablet screen replacements and some PC troubleshooting. However, I have never dug into TV repair and I don’t even know where to begin with this problem. I have this Samsung TV (Actual model is UN55KS8000F but there was no option for it) that was working perfectly about a week ago, then in the middle of watching a show the display went dim, but the image was still there and playing fine (kind of like when your phone screen darkens before it locks). I thought the auto shut off feature was bugging out so I turned off the TV. When I turned it back on all I got is the backlight with lots of vertical colored lines but no actual images of menus or anything. The lines do change color and intensity when I press menu buttons and the like. Where do I even start with this diagnosis? From what I have read T-con boards can cause display issues, but most examples just show either no image or a snow globe effect on top of whatever content is displayed. I am expecting my first child in May and I would rather keep this running instead of spending $700+ on a new TV. All help is much appreciated!
Update (02/20/24)
I replaced the board and I still have the vertical lines. My next bet is possibly ribbon cables. Here is what I am seeing.
