Flashing power light, not turning on

Hi everyone, I have this HP EliteBook 850 G3 which has suddenly stopped powering on. It was working fine last night but coming to it this morning it won't power on anymore, all I get is a few flashes from the power light. The keyboard backlight comes on and so do the mute and WiFi lights. I've tried hard resetting and removing the battery. I can't seem to find any code that matches the flashing on this.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When you had the battery out, and had it unplugged. Did you try holding the power button for 20 seconds?

Also, have you tried reseating the RAM?

Yep I did hold the power button when I had the battery out. I've tried swapping the RAM and that still didn't change anything..

does it run with the adapter and no battery?

My guess: it's either the Video Card or the RAM Cards. If you have a video card issue, try plugging in an external display. If it's RAM, then the PC will not boot at all. One thing you could try doing to test the RAM is to unplug the RAM, and see if the PC does the same thing. If not, then the RAM cards are fine.

I don't have the PC model, so I won't be of too much help. But, I have worked with hundreds of PCs and Macs in the past.

I've tried removing the RAM and an external display and neither change how it behaves. I think the model is CDE7BB2017V. I'm not sure what else it could be, unless it's something like the CPU.

@electricshock - Okay then, if the PC still acts the same way without RAM cards, then that is probably your issue. You will need new RAM cards.

This would make sense, though, because RAM cards are extremely delicate, and they brake immediately with a static shock.

So, you will need to get new RAM cards. Be careful though! Some PCs only work with so much RAM. For example, my Mac only works with 4 GB of RAM. If I put in 8 GB, it will crash. Also, my Mac uses DDR cards, but the most common cards are DDR3, and they looked exactly the same. So, review the cards in your PC, and figure out what type they are. If you feel uncomfortable, let someone else check the cards. Or, you could upload a picture here, and I could try to figure out which type they are.

Well I've managed to get it going again, but it was acting up a bit before it finally fired up again. It seemed to be the power switch or the battery causing it. Thanks for th info though!

@electricshock - Hey, as long as you got it figured out, that's all that counts! Glad to hear it.
