EasyShare DX7440 lens cover wont open

I found an old Kodak EasyShare dx7440. When I turn it on, the lens expands, but the lens cover does not open. I've tried pushing on it gently, and it will open with that push, but as soon as I let go it snaps back closed. I tried gently lifting the plastic around it as some tutorials mentioned but it hasn't worked. I also saw a suggestion to hold it up to a vacuum hose to suck any dirt out. Tried that for a few minutes and it didn't work. Could try that for longer but I was hoping someone might have advice/suggestions.
