How can I restore this if I can't download the recovery file "x12230000_Recovery.ipsw" anymore? Itunes won't restore the device when in DFU mode and the support page is no longer available. I have the latest iTunes installed, do I need to downgrade? Thanks all!

You can still download it by just change the url from
https://appldnld.apple.com/iPod/SBML/osx...
to
http://appldnld.apple.com/iPod/SBML/osx/...
in safari
(change the https to http)
just that, it work for me. I found this on redit.

don't forget try it on safari, some browser arbitrarily change the url to https by some reasons.

@ashton87976 downgrade first then try again. Get a legacy version. You can get some of them from places like this
