The following keys on my keyboard are not working: "67yuhjnm".

So i woke up one morning to find out that the following keys on my keyboard dont work. the 6, 7, y, u, h, j, n, and m keys dont work. i figured out that after a few finagling with the lid of the PC, i can get it to work. Like, i guess the real issue is me trying to figure out what is causing the issue. is there a way that i can clean the insides? do the keys pop out? or do i have to unscrew things? is there an exact step by step guide that i can follow? any kind of help will be appreciated. the exact model of my laptop is HP Pavilion x360 14-cd0xxx.

oh and by the way, nothing like water spills or coffee spills happened. it was in my locker working just fine one night and the next day it just stopped getting response from those keys.

Given you are seeing the issue become intermittent / temporarily resolve with fiddling with the lid, this leads me to think the issue is a connector that isn't making perfect electrical contact. Generally with this situation, a good thing to try is disconnecting that connector, cleaning the metal contacts (all you need to use is a paper towel or Q-tip with a bit of rubbing alcohol), dry the connector (alcohol will evaporate pretty fast) and then re-insert and secure the connector.

Here is a video covering disassembly (and keyboard replacement) of the model laptop you have. Note: many steps shown you WILL NOT NEED TO DO since you don't need to replace the keyboard (yet - you might if cleaning the connector doesn't work).

All you need to do is disassemble to the point where you can access that center ribbon cable, disconnect / clean / dry / re-insert it. Then use the laptop for a while and see if the problem happens again. If it doesn't for a week or so, you're probably good. I say probably because intermittent issues are inherently a pain in the arse.

Thanks a lot. The video you gave me kinda helps. Is there another one that I can look at? something that is filmed at the right angle (and in English)? I am not that great with hardware stuff and do nit really want to go at it all in. I would prefer an easier method of cleaning up just the keys.

@kalilinux56157 looking at the order of the keys, this actually sounds more like a failing keyboard. Not sure why "finagling with the lid" would change this. Possibly that it just moves some of the matrix inside the keyboard. To remove the keycaps something like this video should work.

To work on your computer use the Maintenance And Service Guide for your model. Page 73 deals with the keyboard, which is considered part of the top case. It is rivet to the top case by some plastic tabs. If you just want to replace the keyboard, you will have to remove those plastic tabs and then use very small screws to later on reattach the keyboard. It's a bit of a PITA but can be done.
