Korg Kross 2 - Pitches reversed or not sounding

Problem 1: Pitches reversed

Keyboard worked great for 4-5 years but this week the notes started playing backwards (high pitches on the left, low pitches on the right). Three keys on the left side don't sound (Bb2-C3). And an octave of keys on the right side (C#6-B6) don't sound.

Problem 2: Memory corruption

Each time I turn the keyboard on, it says "Now writing to internal memory" for a few seconds. Then it displays the message "System warning: The internal memory has been corrupted, likely due to an interruption of power while the system was writing/saving data. This has been repaired and the affected Bank has been initialized."

I can't think of when it would have lost power while writing to internal memory. I almost never save anything.

What I tried so far

In an attempt to resolve the issue, I upgraded to the latest firmware 1.22 (previously on 1.21). Per the "Restoring the factories settings" section of the manual, I tried "Loading the preloaded data" and "Initializing the system". After each attempt, I got the same results.

Any ideas?

I was able to resolve "Problem 2: Memory corruption".

Steps to resolve the memory corruption ("USB storage mode")

  1. Connect the Korg Kross 2 keyboard to a computer via USB.
  2. Press and hold Global/Media and Function keys while powering on the keyboard. This opens the internal memory as USB storage on the computer.
  3. Make a backup copy of all the files on the USB storage.
  4. Consider scanning for disk corruption. (Windows: right click on the drive > Properties > Tools tab > Check > Scan and repair drive)
  5. Delete all the files on the USB storage
  6. Replace with a copy of the files from a working Korg Kross 2.
  7. Power off the keyboard
  8. Power on the keyboard

To resolve "Problem 1: Pitches", I took it to a Korg dealer who repaired it for $250. They wouldn't tell me what they did except hinted that it involve entering "Test mode".

A few weeks later the keyboard reverted back to similar issues as before: a "Loading application failed" message. I redid the steps to resolve memory corruption (listed above). Then the keyboard was back to issues with pitches.

I found a service manual for the original Korg Kross but not Korg Kross 2. The instructions for Test Mode in the original manual did not work for me.
