Red Vertical Lines on Screen where Black Areas should be

My 15" 2007 Macbook Pro started displaying Red Vertical Lines on Screen where Black Areas should be.

I've tried some things to try and solve it, but none worked:

- Did a PRAM and SMC reset.

- Checked the connection on the Display Data Cable

- Replaced the entire Screen Assembly (including inverter, lcd, and all cables). Got the parts from a similar MBP from a friend that has a dead logic board.

The only reason I'm not sure if this is a Logicboard/GPU problem is the problem doesn't occur on an external screen.

Does anyone have any idea what more I should look into?

I have precisely the same issue with precisely the same machine. From what I have read I am not sure what the solution is. Replace graphics card, or just fiddle with connections inside? I don;t see a guide to replacing the graphics card so is part of the whole logic board?

This sounds exactly like the nVidia GPU 8600 graphics chip type issue. To be sure please give us the last three figures of your serial number.

Thank you for your answer.

But the GPU is a "ATI Radeon X1600 256 MB".

The serial is ****900VW0L.

The symptoms don't make sense. If you've replace everything from the logic board up it must be confined to the logic board or GPU. Check your external monitor again with several screens. Yeah.. your right.. I suspect the Display Data Cable Plug on the Logic Board might be the problem... But that's beyond my skills.

I'm going to send it in to Apple (here in Portugal) get an estimate on a repair (if at all possible)...

Thank you all!

The parts you got are the probable cause. How do you know they were working?
