Released November 2020, the PS5 console features vastly upgraded visuals and an innovative new Dualsense controller. The space-age black-and-white color scheme is a noticeable departure from PlayStation designs of the past.

PS5 Disc -> Digital BIOS SU-101217-2 Error Code

My PS5 originally wouldn’t go into Safe Mode and only showed a blinking blue light. I suspected the disc drive, so I swapped in a known-good one while keeping the original daughterboard, but updates still failed. I then pulled the BIOS chip, read it, converted it to a Digital Edition BIOS, and flashed it back. After that, the system would go into Safe Mode, but it stopped detecting Wi-Fi networks. I repeated the process and even tried another BIOS chip from a disc console converted to digital, but nothing changed.

The update fails instantly with error SU-101217-2. Online, I’ve seen guesses ranging from SSD issues to a bad Wi-Fi IC to the southbridge needing a reball. Since the southbridge is right next to the BIOS chip, I wondered if I might have affected it during the work. Under a microscope I didn’t see obvious damage, but I tried a reflow anyway since I don’t have reballing experience. After the reflow, the console didn’t automatically enter Safe Mode (could just be because I had reset the database beforehand), but the symptoms stayed the same: no Wi-Fi networks at all, LAN works fine, Bluetooth works, and updates still fail instantly.

I tried restoring the original BIOS, but I lost the small 4.7k resistor under the BIOS chip during rework, so I couldn’t test the original firmware. At this point Safe Mode only works when selected, Wi-Fi is completely dead, LAN and Bluetooth work, and the system still throws SU-101217-2 immediately. If anyone has run into this exact combo or has advice on what to check next, I’d appreciate it.

Hi!

Could be a lot of things. Since your wifi completely stopped working, I would first check that IC out.

I would first solder a new resistor in and maybe then try a new wifi chip And see what happens.

The update error could be caused by the southbridge or any other component.

I would start with the Wifi IC first.

Please let us know how it Goes!

So I think it had to do with the actual bios file. I used a different digital bios file adjusted the SN, and then I rebuilt the database cleared the cache and reset the storage. And I was able to update the console and it seems to have resolved the WiFi issue
