Disassemble the engine brake (allows the operator to slow or stop the engine) in order to replace the return spring, bolts, brackets, or cable.

Remove the return spring by using needle nose pliers, a screwdriver, or other device. I removed the spring by the end of the front bracket (away from the mower handle). Lift up and away from the bracket, and the spring should come out.

Remove the two bolts using a 7/16 socket.

Push the metal tab closest to the black wire down

While pushing the tab down, pull the black wire out of the clip.

Disassembly is complete!
