Laptop Will Not Turn On
Your laptop will not boot up or respond in any way.
Battery Drained
The battery for the laptop could be completely depleted. If the device is plugged in but the charging light is not lit, the problem may be the charging cable. First, make sure that the cable is unplugged from any outlets then clear any debris that may be inside the charging port and/or cable by using compressed air or your breath.
Broken Charge Cord
If the charging light still does not illuminate the charging cable might be crimped or otherwise damaged. If possible, use a second charging cable to ensure that the issue lies with the cable.
Faulty Battery
The battery could be at fault. If your charge cord works, plug it into the laptop and let it charge for a while. Turn on the laptop with the charger still plugged in. When the laptop turns on, unplug the charger. If the laptop turns off, then the battery is faulty, and you need to replace it. This is a guide on how to replace the battery.
The Disc Drive Will Not Read Discs
The computer fails to recognize the disc put into the drive.
Scratched CD/DVD
The first thing to check if the computer is not reading a disc is to make sure that the disc works. This can be done by either checking the drive with multiple other discs or checking the disc on a different device.
Faulty Disc Drive
If the disc runs fine in other devices, it is likely the fault of the disc drive. First, using compressed air clean any dust or other debris that may be on the laser reader head. If the disc still can not be read, this could mean that the drive is damaged and needs to be replaced. Our guide can help you to do this.
The Blue Screen of Death Appeared
Your computer moves to a blue screen with an error message.
Program Error
Sometimes the blue screen can be caused by an error with a program. In cases like this there is not generally a hardware issue that can be resolved. If a particular program tends to cause the blue screen to appear, consult the program’s guides.
Damaged Hard Disk Drive
It is possible for the blue screen to be caused by a damaged hard drive. In this case the hard drive should be replaced by following this guide.
Laptop Gets Hot and Shuts Down
The laptop gets hot when running and turns itself off.
Blocked Air Flow
The vents of the laptop can be blocked by dust or objects, preventing the laptop from cooling down. Make sure that your laptop is not on any soft surfaces which could block the vents, like carpets and fabrics. Use a compressed air duster to gently blow out the dust stuck in the vents and fan.
Stuck Cooling Fan
If cleaning the fans and vents does not help the cause could be due to a stuck fan.
The Screen is Cracked/Bleeding/Damaged
The screen has cracks, or otherwise looks damaged.
Damaged Screen
If the computer screen has cracks, discoloration, or otherwise appears damaged, it might be time to replace the screen.
Laptop Boots to BIOS Screen
Laptop boots up into a black-and-white or blue-and-white screen instead of the normal desktop.
Not Enough RAM/Faulty Memory
The problem could be with the memory modules. To fix this, turn off the laptop and take out the battery. <Our guide> is a guide on how to remove the battery. Then, use a phillips screwdriver and remove the cover to the memory module slot. Carefully remove the top memory module from the laptop. If it still does not work try switching the bottom RAM with the top stick only and test again. If that does not work then replace them with the new modules. Damaged Hard Disk Drive
If the computer is booting directly to the BIOS screen it is likely the fault of the hard drive. A faulty hard drive can be replaced by following the guide here.
