How to fix keyboard that is not working during startup?

Good day to everyone!

I have a problem, i have an old A1237 MacBook Air with 1.6Ghz Intel Core2Duo an 80GB HDD. MacOsX 10.6 and Windows 7.

When it boots up it gives the original apple chimme, after it shows grey screen and in a couple-o-minutes tries to load a broken copy of Windows 7. When you try to press hotkey's like ALT, "C", Command + V, +T or other, while booting up, nothing happens - like that the keyboard is not working or detached. But when it tries to boot up windows - the keyboard starts to work (Capslock green light works).

How can i fix this problem?? How can i factory restore my Mac to MacOsX??

Tried all hotkey combinations while booting - nothing works,

Tried detaching internal HDD and booting off USB holding C or ALT - shows Apple logo and in a couple-o-seconds starts to blink and show a folder with "?" or a crossed circle. Used Original USB recovery drive and one MacOsX Lion install USB flash drive made by other MacBook.

.....waiting for an any ideas....

Any ideas?

Have you tried using the external CD/DVD player the system came with with the recovery DVD?

I think your only solution here is to plug in a USB keyboard and then depending on what happens when you try using the keyboard you may also need to disconnect the internal keyboard ribbon cable.

These early Mac air systems make things hard as they only have one USB port. If you can't get it to boot up with the internal HD.

If your OS is corrupted you'll need to find a way to access the HD. If you can get the USB keyboard working and have a second Mac you could try putting the Air into target mode and via WiFi see if you can access the airs HD to recover any files you may need and then repair/rebuild the HD.

Try starting in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key on startup. Do you have the original system installation disk? Do you have an external DVD drive that will work with this machine? Do you have another Mac that you can use to boot into Target mode? What shows when you start up and hold down the Option key? Do you know what Mac system you had installed?

Tried all of it !

Shift key on startup - nothing happens, goes straigt to broken copy of windows,

Original install USB flash - pressing "C" or Option key - waited a couple-o-seconds and goes to windows

USB - works, tried USB keyboards and different USB thumbdrives - theres power and it tries to read something from the usb drive (blinking light on usb thumbdrive).

I have one more mac - but i can't get into Target disk mode...

System in my MacBook Air - 10.6.

Maibe something wrong with EFI ?

Yes press hold the Option key to check what OS option it brings in. If luckily if displays Mac OS X along with windows then you can select the Mac drive & boot into Mac desktop. Give it a try.

Hope it works!!!!

Nope, nothing works. When you startup this Macbook Air it feels like the keyboard isn't working at all...(there was no phisical or liquid damage). But in a some seconds it starts to work - but only after it starts to boot windows....(i tested it several times with Caps lock buttons green light)

Using the trackpad or mouse see what your keyboard is set to within the system preferences > keyboard. You may need to delete it and reset it.

You'll need to open the system up and remove the optical drive so you can remove the CD from the drive manually.

Why did you think a Windows 10 CD will work here?

из

Just keep pressed the right mouse button when startup the mac. It will put out the disk!

The reason internal and external keyboard not to work is because the complete Mac os is removed along with MacBook onboard firmware too which is in logic board. So no keys will work from turning on Mac laptops but will detect in windows os that is installed in MacBook. When I contacted Apple customercare is like I'm talking to people who have no knowledge.

The only solution you can do is remove the HDD or SSD from this MacBook and insert it to other same model working MacBook which has Mac os firmware that is not erased and install Mac os with your bootable disc or flashdrive that contains Mac os by going to option mode. Just try and check this if it works. And other way is connecting hard drive which has Mac os update or download the Mac os driver and check.

Ive got a MACPro 3,1 with 4 2TB HDD’s, a 32Gb flash drive with MAC OS Boot on it and a 300Gb SSD also with Mac OS Boot (El Capitan) on it. Whatever key I press is ignored (wired keyboard) and it won’t boot to either the SSD or the Flash Drive. I’m tearing my hair out!

Zap the PRAM yet? Leave it unplugged a good while, perhaps overnight. If you can get to the battery on the motherboard and CAREFULLY REMOVE IT while it is unplugged that should speed things up as well. It’s working properly do not be alarmed when all of the fans come on full blast. That is your sign that it is indeed rebuilding those settings And will hopefully be back up soon.

Try using a bootable macOS installer drive and then just stick it in and turn on your mac. look up apple support site on how to do it.

My keyboard wasn't working at start up too, I couldn't initiate MacOS recovery to format the newly installed ssd and bootable installer loaded it for me.

Hope this helps.
