MacBook Pro shuts off randomly and often

My Macbook Pro Mid 2010 13 inch shuts off randomly.

I purchased this machine from ebay awhile back and this was a known issue. I replaced the HD with a 1TB and the MCP didn't shut down at all. It installed everything for hours at a time, I used it, it was good. Just today, it shut off about 5 times in 1 minute...doesnt feel too hot, I was attempting to install MAC OSX mavericks. What could be the issue?

Has a new 1TB hard drive, I also removed what dust there was underneath the fan, battery has about 171 charge cycles on it.

ANY IDEAS!!!!

Oh ya, it shuts off plugged into the magsafe as well as on battery.

Now it wont even start! It boots for about 5 seconds than shuts off immediately. I also reset the SMC. I will reset the PRAM. I cant tell if the fan is running...HELP please thnkas

Guys! Any advice? I am not very familiar with Macbooks! I've been using Mac OSX for under 6 months and need some input!

So the issue all along was the RAM. The rest of it was just crappy OSX Mavericks.

So, I suspect its faulty RAM. Its only 4GB so its cheap. I bought some and will post results.

Also, it downloaded mavericks without shutting down, then when it was installing it upon startup, thats when it cuts out.

So my macbook was able to download mavericks. Only problem now is the keyboard and trackopad freezup rrandomly. Doesnt shutoff any more. RAM might have fixed that.

hey man was it like a power cut? my macbook sometimes runs for 2 hours fine, sometimes it will just shut down after a few minutes. had before that it wouldnt turn on either for couple of days. just goes black screen and you can hear the fan stop workin. did you buy apple RAM or just cheap ebay?

Cheap eBay used ram sticks. All I needed. Macericks also contributes slightly to my issues.

Jk, Mcp decided to start shutting off again. Barely stays on and cuts out immediately, in safe mode, in turning off whatever. Help! This is really getting me annoyed at apple...

I actually somehow managed to download the firmware update, after restart it got stuck in this weird mode where only the front light is really faint and black screen. unplugged and left it for two days, guess the battery ran flat or something. eventually after two days got it runnin again and since then its been absolutely fine. this macbook is the biggest mistery to me. hope you get it sorted
