Restore error 9 and 14 after fixing iPhone screen. What to do?

My iPhone 5s screen cracked, so I replaced the screen. When I replaced the screen the battery wouldn't charge, so I turned the phone off. When I turned it back on again, it was stuck on the Apple logo. I then restored it—but in the middle of the restore, the phone stopped working. Now the phone is stuck on the "connect to iTunes" error and when I try to restore it, I get mostly error 9. I tried all my computers (2 Macs, and a PC) and all the USB hubs that they have. What do I do? Thanks.

Update:

Since the screen was a third party, all I did was was restore the iPhone with the screen disconnected. Once it shows that the restore finished on my computer, I reconnected the screen and finished the setup.

Please help! i am having a very similar problem! what do you mean that you disconnected the screen? how do i do this!! i need solution

из

you just try to restore without lcd(display). when finised restore u just fix the lcd again

из

I have same problem, I do this, but I don't get work. Any other solution?

из

This was the only article that solved my problem. It made sense to disconnect the display while the phone was doing the recovery in itunes. The display is not needed during that process. After it's done recovering, you can then connect the display and everything is all good. Thanks!

You are incredibly lucky if simply backing off the screw on the LCD shield in the bottom rightmost position will solve your blue screen problem.

Most of the time, error 9 is due to trace damage on the board from overtightening the wrong "long screw" into this short screw bracket. This can be solved, but it is a major board repair.

Error 14 is usually unrelated to long screw damage and may be related to battery, touch ID, or the tiny U16 chip on the board.

Most of what is written on this page---usb and antivirus/firewall is a massive waste of your troubleshooting time and completely irrelevant to a clear underlying problem.

that's true as above

из

Yup. iTunes connect picture then, on restore, it would blue screen and then give the error 9. I removed the screen and noticed the botched fix job; long screws in the lower screw holes and even one missing on the top. Luckily I was able to restore without the screen on and put the screen back on correctly and works great now. For those not so lucky, there are soldering folks on ebay than can fix the problem caused by the the wrong screw problem for a decent price; in case there truly is board damage. I think just the screw pressing was causing my problem; a bit more tightening might have damaged the board. Great thread...thanks to all.

Since people are still asking about this: check out Jessa's video on Youtube: https://youtu.be/TzlsG1M1nZ8 From there you can get a visual sense of what the problem is; and how to fix it.

Sounds like you put the screws back in the wrong places. It is important that you keep track of them as they are different.

I would double check that your board isn't damaged from this.

I had same problem. I tried restoring the phone but kept getting error 9. All i did was took the the bottom left screw off cover plate that covers the lcd and digitizer flex connectors and shifted the cover plate a little to the left. i also loosened the bottom right screw on the cover plate. then i tried restore the phone and the phone restored as normal.

hi, reading your lines made me happy fixing the itune error 9 on iphone 4, it really magic, it worked perfektly even it seems that it is slowly trying to restore, you were right, it is about fastning the motherboard with the wrong scews or some, i had the same problem that apple propose the usb and the antivirus as solution to it, but it didnt help, so your solution worked on iphone 4 as well, i changed the screen, then tried to restore it, it keeps showing error 9, sometimes error 14 and 27 when i try without battery or to make just an appdate. the screen turns white each time the restore is stuck, and it doesnt show any error afterward, so if your iphone shows error 9, or the screen turns white while restoring, this solution of releasing the screws will work 100%.

thank you for your cooperation

из

You were absolutely right, I loosened up the screws and the restore went well. Thanks.

According to the Apple support page, error 9 correlates to your antivirus software or your firewall hindering connection with Apple's update servers while error 14 correlates to an interrupted USB connection. So check your antivirus make sure that its not blocking iTunes and check your USB cord make sure its not broken in any way or use another cord.

For me, I prefer to always download the latest firmware from http://felixbruns.de and then boot the iPhone into DFU mode and then do a shift+restore from iTunes. I never run into any errors through that way.

For your reference to any iTunes errors

Best of luck

Yes thoose guys are 100% correct.

if you have a blue screen after replacing a screen ore removing the shield from thoose connectors it is most of the times that one screw.

i replaced a screen also and when i wanted to start up again i got a blue screen and it kept in hanging in the apple logo.

I tried to restore the Phone including DFU and all kind of other things the told me on the internet but no luck.

And then i read the post of the screws and so i pulled out all four screws and yes i made the mistake also.

I was Lucky because my PCB was not toast and now i have a good working iPhone 5S again.

Hi,

How i fixed the error 14.

My iPhone 5s had glass cracked. I changed the class, restore the phone it was all working just great. I put the plate on the LCD cables, put all the screws back and it was not starting no longer. After i read the review from u guys i tried removing the plate from the LCD plugs on the main board but it wasn't working from a PC so i tried on a mack where, surprise.....it was working and i got back to the start.

So for me was working removing the plate and the screws and restore it from a mack computer.

Hope u fix yours like i fixed mine.

Thanks for the reviews that helped me and sorry for my English :)

I understand your struggle.

I was frantically searching for solutions when it came to this issue. I had just completely rebuilt the phone, all the way down to its frame, for damage related reasons. It just so happened that I had an issue at one point seating the screen in the frame, so, as you may imagine, I put it upon myself to attempt to get it to sit in the frame nice and snug. In the process, the screen assembly came in and out of the phone a plethora of times. At some point during this process, I must have mixed up the 1.2mm screw with one of the 1.7mm screws.

Of course I didn't realize the fatality of my mistake until I came across this thread. I had also seen some other horror stories about how micro-soldering was your only option. At this point, I was willing to give most of any sensible ideas a shot, so I did.

I removed all four screws on the motherboard's screen assembly shield. After I did this, I then took a closer look at all of the screws I had sitting there on my desk. At this point, it was time to see if I had mixed any of them up (I did). It appeared that I had definitely mixed up the 1.2 or 1.3 millimeter screw with one of the 1.7mm screws. At that, I then took to measuring (by eye) the 1.3 and 1.2 millimeter screws to see which was shorter. I made my choice (which you could much more formally do), and put them all back in their designated holes.

HOWEVER, for the 1.2 and 1.3 millimeter screws, I did not tighten them as much, hoping that just maybe nothing would short out or that no further damage would o

Keep in mind,

I had spiritual help throughout the whole fiasco. :D

I then booted the phone

(no fingers crossed).

Hooray! The phone successfully was restored.

Keep in mind though, I may not have tightened the wrong one in place of a shorter screw to an extent where I could have broken it. Your condition may be different. I do, however, giving something of this nature a shot.

From one human to another,

take my word. I was skeptical, and you should be too, but if you really want that phone of yours back, give this a shot.

IF, and I mean IF, this phone is to act up again, I will attempt the remember to come back to this thread and let you fellas know.

REMEMBER,

this is not full-proof, but I do think it is worth a try.

Thanks all, hope you can carry through with your repairs!

Error 9 solved.

I solved this error by insisting again and again to restore it but constantly gave error 9. The cable for the restoration I bought it again for security. I solved the problem as follows:

1) Tried about 5 times to restore unsuccessfully (error 9)

2) I removed the screen and tried to restore 2 times unsuccessfully (error 9 again)

3) I reconnected the screen and tried to restore it successfully.

I hope you find it useful to my information.

Products used:

i) macbook pro retina (el capitan 10.11.3)

ii) iTunes 12.3.2.35

iii) the original cable for iphone 5

Just connect the new screen to the phone but do not connect the home button lead, with the home button lead connected you will get the error 9. Just lay the screen on top of its case

Do it this way and you can watch the restored files loading on the phone
