There is a small gear in there that breaks. This happened to me too. This link has instructions for replacing the gear, and also sells the part:

You can also buy a used instrument cluster on Ebay that you can just drop in, but they're about $200, and who knows if the gears on those will fail eventually.

This is a miniature problem in the car but need to be repaired as soon as possible because it indicates the distance covered by the car and maintain the time schedule of its maintenance period from the readings of the odometer. General tips to make repair are follows:
(i) First,remove the minor coverings with a flat screwdriver by own.
(ii) Open the screws present there.
(iii)Then,remove the instrument cluster.
(iv) The connectors at the back of the instruments unit is to be removed.
(v) Breakup the instrument system from complex to open pieces.
(vi) Differentiate the odometer gauge system.
(vii) Exchange the cog disc.
(viii) Re fix all parts and put it again back together.
