Phone heats up a lot if the system software is stuck in a boot-loop or is stuck at a certain stage of booting where it cannot proceed further due to system software corruption.
Not really sure of a solution to this problem. You can try using another charger, cleaning the charger port socket with a toothpick, use another charging cable. Try another battery.
